All 4 Disney World Parks Host Extended Evening Hours Hotel Perk in May 2026

Walt Disney World has been quietly adjusting the Extended Evening Hours schedule for the shoulder season ahead of Summer 2026, and the on-site perk for guests staying at higher-end hotels is coming to all 4 parks: Magic Kingdom and EPCOT (as normal) as well as both Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios. As these latter two often signal seasonal shifts for ExEH, we wanted to drop in with an update.

Let’s begin with basics: Extended Evening Hours is nighttime counterpart to Early Entry. There are several differences, with Extended Evening Hours (or ExEH) being two hours long as opposed to 30 minutes. Extended Evening Hours is also only 2 nights per week at 2 parks total, as opposed to daily at all 4 parks.

The most notable difference is that guests staying at Value or Moderate Resorts are not eligible for Extended Evening Hours. This has been highly controversial, with Walt Disney World fans criticizing ExEH as being only for the rich, creating two classes of guests, etc. If you want to take advantage of ExEH on a tighter budget, it’s worth noting that not just the most expensive resorts are eligible. You can save money by renting DVC points or staying at the Swolphin and still be eligible for ExEH, which are two great money-saving options.

The Extended Evening Hours perk is usually offered after regular park closing on Monday nights at EPCOT and Wednesday nights at Magic Kingdom. That schedule does change from time to time, as reflected in Walt Disney World’s official calendar. Note that if regular hours are added causing park closing to occur later, which happens frequently, Extended Evening Hours shifts to after that.

Speaking of which, here’s the official calendar for Extended Evening Hours from now through May 18, 2026, which is as far out as the calendar currently goes:

We’re bringing this to your attention because that’s already a lot of schedule changes in the month of May 2026.

Around this same time last year, ExEH at Animal Kingdom started quietly appearing on the schedule and it turned out that was a shift for most of the summer due to the debut of Starlight. That night parade once again raises the possibility that Magic Kingdom will not host Extended Evening Hours for much of the summer.

Thankfully, that’s probably not what’s happening here. This strikes us as just several schedule anomalies at this point.

The likely explanation for Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios hosting ExEH in May 2026 is that it’s convention ‘season.’

In early May, the Gartner Supply Chain Symposium/Xpo Convention is at Walt Disney World, and Gartner usually does a park buyout for a private event. So our money is on that explaining why EPCOT isn’t hosting ExEH on May 4, 2026.

Animal Kingdom is also hosting ExEH on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. We already know that’s due to the private park buyout for a Dave Matthews Band concert in front of Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom!

I would assume the changes in between are similarly due to private or special events, or routine scheduling quirks. With ExEH returning to EPCOT on May 18, 2026, there’s no consistency to when DAK takes over hosting duties. While it’s unfortunate for people visiting during these dates, there doesn’t appear to be any bigger picture trend.

The bigger question is what happens with Extended Evening Hours in Summer 2026.

As mentioned above, ExEH switched from Magic Kingdom to Animal Kingdom for almost all of summer last year. That schedule change started ahead of Disney Starlight Night Parade’s debut, and continued for most of July through early 2026. There were a handful of Magic Kingdom dates post-July, but not many.

If Starlight is scheduled to have two performances per evening throughout Summer 2026, this will probably happen again. The reason this would be necessary in the summer but not other times of year is simply the later sunset time. As a result of that, the second Starlight would need to be scheduled at 11 pm. That puts the end time of ExEH at 1 am, which is later than Walt Disney World would like it.

With that said, a second Starlight showtime is not guaranteed. That’s already not happening right now except during peak weeks, and summer isn’t exactly the busy season anymore.

This coming Wednesday, there’s a single Starlight at 8:15 pm. In summer, that would move to 9 pm with Happily Ever After at 10 pm. That’s still sufficient to accommodate Extended Evening Hours at Magic Kingdom on Wednesday, which is what we suspect will end up happening.

Last year was different because it was the debut season of Starlight. Since then, crowds have been much lower for the second Starlight; it’s not really needed except on peak dates. With that said, we’d argue that crowd dynamics are fundamentally different in summer. Even with lower overall attendance, more people stay later due to weather.

Regardless, our expectation is still a single Starlight on Wednesdays–at least, to start the summer season. If Walt Disney World starts seeing Magic Kingdom nighttime crowds increase, especially around evening entertainment, due to higher heat, they might adjust for future dates. And that might actually happen sooner rather than later, as Walt Disney World is forecast to have record heat this week.

Normally, Extended Evening Hours moves to Disney’s Hollywood Studios if Magic Kingdom has scheduling conflicts. Animal Kingdom is typically the backup to DHS, taking over if that park is hosting parties. And that is the case throughout Summer 2026, as After Hours at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which runs most Wednesday nights through September 2, 2026.

Part of this decision will undoubtedly be driven by fan feedback. There were a lot of guest complaints about Animal Kingdom hosting ExEH last summer, as the event was over by 8 pm most nights–before sunset. It was a savvy move on paper to help redistribute crowds last year, but that’s not how it played out in practice. DAK was dead during ExEH, and guests were angry that the on-site hotel perk wasn’t at Magic Kingdom (or Hollywood Studios).

It’s not exactly a valuable perk at DAK in the first place, and not even getting a reprieve from the heat and getting to enjoy the ambiance of the park at night makes it even less valuable. That’s doubly true as Animal Kingdom becomes increasingly skippable for more Walt Disney World guests.

Regardless of what happens in Summer 2026, it’s highly likely that Magic Kingdom will stop hosting Extended Evening Hours in Fall 2026. This is due to Party Season, when Magic Kingdom hosts Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party (MNSSHP) and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party (MVMCP) multiple nights per week from August through December 2026.

Post-summer, it’s likely that Disney’s Hollywood Studios will host Extended Evening Hours on Wednesdays between September and late October 2026, with Animal Kingdom taking over starting on November 4, 2026 due to the Jollywood Nights Christmas Party that’s hosted at DHS in November and December. From then until early 2027, Animal Kingdom will likely host the second Extended Evening Hours of the week.

This has happened for each of the last few years. So even though the schedule is not yet published that far out, you should plan for Magic Kingdom to not host Extended Evening Hours between roughly September 16, 2026 and January 6, 2027. If it does, consider yourself lucky!

Jollywood Nights Christmas Party Hollywood Studios Disney World

Extended Evening Hours moving away from Magic Kingdom may seem like a downgrade, but it really depends on when and where it moves. We’ve done ExEH at Magic Kingdom during the Party Season in the past, and it has been bonkers busy. Moving it over to DHS and Animal Kingdom during those busy stretches is the right move for everyone.

This is especially true when it shifts to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which has several headliners. Due to the layout of the parks and distance between big rides, we actually prefer Extended Evening Hours at DHS to EPCOT. Extended Evening Hours at DHS can be fantastic–we highly recommend it, especially in the fall.

Extended Evening Hours switching to DHS in September has more or less been the cadence of previous years, with Magic Kingdom no longer hosting for the year once MNSSHP kicked into high gear. It then goes from DHS to DAK once Jollywood Nights started. There might be schedule anomalies on a couple of dates, but that should be the trend for the remainder of the year.

Other such anomalies could occur once DJN and MVMCP wind down, during and around the weeks of Christmas and New Year’s Eve. But that hasn’t happened in previous years–ExEH moved to Animal Kingdom and stayed there. Although Extended Evening Hours still isn’t as desirable at DAK, at least in November, it occurs entirely at night due to the earlier sunset time.

Night Pandora World Avatar Animal Kingdom Disney World 328

This is not to complain about Extended Evening Hours at Animal Kingdom. To the contrary, we love DAK after dark. Emphasis on “after dark.”

That’s not possible during summer season due to later sunsets, so we weren’t wild about DAK hosting ExEH last summer from 6 pm to 8 pm. That was a one and done for us, especially one night after walking out of a totally empty Animal Kingdom in broad daylight. It’ll be a similar story on those May 2026 nights when DAK is hosting again.

Once Daylight Saving Time ends, it’s a totally different ballgame. Pandora – World of Avatar looks great at night, and takes on a totally different atmosphere that’s surprisingly serene. Avatar’s alien ambiance is much more convincing at night, truly like a planet being reclaimed by nature. The soundscape in Pandora is also top notch, elevating that landscape even further. The vibes are immaculate, as the kids say.

Honestly, ambiance is the upside of Extended Evening Hours at Animal Kingdom from our perspective. Crowds are usually lower, sure, but you can get low crowds pretty easily at Animal Kingdom by arriving early or staying late (without ExEH).

While I consider Animal Kingdom to be the weakest of the 4 parks at night, that is very much a relative term. Even the “weakest” in this case is still fantastic, and incredibly underrated. Just walking around Animal Kingdom at night is incredibly satisfying, albeit a bit spooky in low crowds.

If you’ve only done Animal Kingdom during hot days, you will have a totally fresh perspective on it–noticing details you’ve never seen before and leaving with a newfound appreciation for the park. I promise! But again, all of this assumes Animal Kingdom is hosting in November or December, and not May through October.

Ultimately, that’s our update on the Extended Evening Hours at Walt Disney World schedule for May 2026. All four parks hosting in the first half or so of the month does raise an eyebrow, but this is probably due to multiple one-off events as opposed to a change for the summer season…or duration of 2026.

That’s still to come, just as it does every year with Magic Kingdom not hosting for the final few months during Party Season. The difference as contrasted with last year is that we hope Animal Kingdom won’t be hosting all summer long. Extended Evening Hours aren’t so great without the “evening” part, especially during the dog days of summer.

Honestly, the ‘best of both worlds’ solution is having longer regular hours at Magic Kingdom and running a second Starlight throughout the summer (including Wednesdays). With guests staying later in the summer months to beat the heat, adjusting hours and having later closings just makes sense.

Star Wars Galaxys Edge Night Hollywood Studios Disney World 1211

Walt Disney World could then shift Extended Evening Hours at Disney’s Hollywood Studios to a different day of the week when that park isn’t hosting After Hours. Nothing says that ExEH needs to be Wednesdays! We’ll keep you posted about future scheduling changes; hopefully there won’t be any major updates for a few more months.
