Spring break is right around the corner. This is one of the busiest times of the year at Walt Disney World, with 2 of the busiest weeks of the entire year falling in March 2026. But not all weeks are equally bad, and this crowd calendar covers the best & worst times to visit between now and April 2026, along with tips for beating–or at least mitigating–the highest waits.
Underscoring the point that not all weeks are equally bad, this week–the first of March–is one of our favorite times to visit Walt Disney World. This is typically a stretch of mild weather and low crowds ahead of spring break, with most parks having 1/10 to 4/10 crowd levels during the first week of March.
This is a top tier time to visit thanks to the mild weather, EPCOT in bloom, and low crowds. It’s the calm before (and after) the storm, and there are only a handful of weeks that we’d rank higher from both a quantitative and qualitative perspective. Then, like flipping a switch, attendance surges almost overnight with the start of spring break.
Our goals with this guide to spring break are highlighting weeks that will have the highest wait times and worst crowd levels at Walt Disney World. In so doing, we’ll look at school schedules for some of the largest districts that impact Walt Disney World, last year’s crowd levels, and general travel trends for spring break to predict which dates will be “red flags” on Walt Disney World crowd calendar for March and April 2026.
Spring break season kicks off in the first half of March with colleges and universities, followed by K-12 school systems that take their week-long breaks. But not all dates within that range are equally crowded, as evidenced by last year, when the lowest days were 1/10 crowd level days (25 minute average wait) and the peak was 8/10 (43 minutes).
We expect a higher floor and peak this year, but also a shorter spring break season. The worst dates of last year’s spring break season were in mid-to-late April, and that same timeframe should be firmly in the 2026 shoulder season.
Before we dig into the best & worst weeks, let’s cover the unique factors that’ll shape crowd levels in 2026…

2026 Spring Break Unique Wrinkles
Easter falls on April 5, 2026. That’s roughly two weeks earlier than last year, when Easter fell on April 20. The result of that was that spring break crowds were spread across a longer window, with what we called a ‘twin peaks’ phenomenon–higher highs and lower lows. An earlier Easter concentrates those crowds into a tighter timeframe.
Mardi Gras coincided with Presidents’ Day week again. This is something we’ve already covered at length, but suffice to say, Mardi Gras was two days after Presidents’ Day this year as opposed to in early March (as was the case last year).
That’s precisely why early March is actually a good week this year, whereas it saw elevated crowds last year. Not really a spring break phenomenon, but nevertheless relevant context if you’re wondering why early March is a good time to visit in 2026, but wasn’t last year.

Epic Universe is in its first full spring break season. In theory, some guests who otherwise might’ve spent their entire trip at Walt Disney World could split time or at least dedicate days to Epic Universe. Also in theory, this could offer crowd relief at Disney–especially at Animal Kingdom, which is the park most likely to lose attendance to Epic Universe.
In practice, this has yet to be felt at WDW in any way whatsoever. Epic Universe has contributed to a “rising tide lifts all ships” dynamic for Universal and Walt Disney World. It’s nevertheless the elephant in the room, and we’d be remiss if we didn’t at least mention the so-called ‘Epic Effect.’
It’s also worth mentioning because, if you’re planning to visit both Walt Disney World and Epic Universe, we would highly recommend planning your park days around the latter. The difference between the best & worst days of the week at Epic Universe is far greater than at Walt Disney World. See Epic Universe Crowd Calendar: Best Dates to Visit in 2026.

Ride closures could play a larger role. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster (Starring Aerosmith) is now closed for its transformation into Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets. DINOSAUR at Animal Kingdom is also closed.
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom have been closed for a while. One or both of these two attractions could reopen during spring break, as both have “Spring 2026” opening timelines. But the longer we go without dates, the more likely those are to drift into April as opposed to March.
In our view, the only refurbishment or reimagining with the potential to have a major impact on crowds is DINOSAUR. Animal Kingdom was already borderline and is now down two attractions and an entire land during construction of Tropical Americas.
We could see DINOSAUR’s closure to allow Epic Universe to siphon away a not-insignificant number of guests. Equally likely, the other 3 parks at Walt Disney World all just get slightly busier. Other refurbishments are unlikely to move the needle.

Special events shift dates. This is actually mostly a non-factor, at least as far as year over year crowd changes go. On the front end, EPCOT’s Flower & Garden Festival starts March 4, which shifts slightly–but not meaningfully–as compared to last year.
It’s a similar story with the runDisney Springtime Surprise at the end of the date range, which makes a more meaningful move. Not enough to impact crowds too much, but it could make for more limited resort availability.
In between, there are a couple of cheer & dance events at the ESPN Wide World of Sports on the weekend of March 13-14, 2026. These could be more impactful than other ESPN WWoS youth events to the extent that they coincide with spring break for participants, especially since both appear to be occurring a week later in 2026 than last year.

Annual Pass blockouts help mitigate crowds. The Pirate Pass is blocked out March 14-21, 2026 and March 29 to April 9, 2026. The Pixie Dust Pass is blocked out those same dates, plus March 22, 28, and April 10-12, 2026.
This alone should tell you when Walt Disney World is forecasting the worst of the crowds, but keep in mind that the Pixie Dust Pass is always blocked out on weekends and Disney tends to err on the side of aggressive AP blockouts.
Ticket deals are ongoing. The big Florida resident ticket deals don’t have blockout dates this year, just as they didn’t last year. Although there’s a new Disney+ targeted ticket deal that wasn’t offered last year, we don’t expect a change in admission offers to move the needle on crowds. It’s all about the Florida resident deals, and those are virtually the same as last year.

Start of Spring Break 2026 Season
Let’s dig right in with the kickoff of spring break season, which will arrive on Friday, March 13, 2026. This is earlier than you might expect spring break season to start, but this is a student holiday for Osceola and Orange County, both of which have their spring recesses March 16-20, 2026.
Osceola and Orange Counties are the home of Walt Disney World, and their combined enrollment of approximately 300,000 students represent the single-largest bloc of WDW spring breakers. When these districts are out, local families flood the parks.
Central Florida has seen a population explosion in the last decade, with these two counties in particular seeing an influx of remote workers and upper middle class families who visit Walt Disney World in strong numbers. Holiday breaks in Central Florida counties now have more significant impacts on attendance than they used to. This catches some longtime Walt Disney World fans by surprise, as locals did not have such an outsized impact on park attendance a decade or so ago.
Speaking of other districts beyond Central Florida, here’s a rundown of when the other big ones are off…

Major School District Spring Break 2026 Dates
Beyond the Orlando area, there are several large districts in Florida that are among the largest in the country and have an outsized impact on attendance at Walt Disney World:
- Hillsborough County Public Schools: March 16-20, 2026
- Palm Beach County Public Schools: March 16-20, 2026
- Duval County Public Schools: March 16-20, 2026
- Miami-Dade County Public Schools: March 23-27, 2026
- Broward County Public Schools: March 16-20, 2026
- Volusia County Public Schools: March 16-20, 2026
- Lee County Public Schools: March 16-20, 2026
Here are other major school districts and their 2026 spring break dates that could significantly impact crowd levels at Walt Disney World:
- Houston Independent School District: March 9-13, 2026
- Dallas Independent School District: March 16-20, 2026
- Gwinnett County Public Schools: April 6-10, 2026
- Chicago Public Schools: March 23-27, 2026
- Detroit Public Schools: March 30 to April 3, 2026
- New York City Public Schools: April 2-10, 2026
- Fairfax County Public Schools: March 30 to April 3, 2026
Note that some districts have ‘professional development days’ or flex dates off the Friday before or Monday after their breaks begin. These are often used as makeup days in the event of snow or other weather-related closures, and it seems like there have been a lot of those thus far in Winter 2026 (even in Florida!).

This is not an exhaustive list of spring break schedules. These districts were selected because they’re among the country’s largest districts that are either near Walt Disney World or feed heavily into visitor demographics. That’s why Chicago is listed but West Coast school districts are not.
Obviously, there are more than a dozen major school districts in the United States with breaks that contribute to crowds at Walt Disney World. There’s also very little representation from the Northeast and Midwest. This is not to say that New York, New Jersey, Michigan, Indiana, etc. don’t have a huge impact on crowds. They do!
Districts in the Northeast and Midwest have spring breaks that are, on average, later than the South. This is because districts in cold weather states are also more likely to have a mid-winter break, and that usually coincides with Presidents’ Day. Consequently, many of these districts push back their spring break to coincide with Easter.

Speaking of Easter, private schools throughout the United States are much more likely to have spring break coincide with Easter week. What these schools lack in size they make up in volume.
In other words, the above list doesn’t even begin to tell the full story when it comes to spring break crowds. You might look at that and be tempted to conclude that Easter actually won’t be bad this year because there’s so little representation on the list. That will almost certainly be wrong.
The above list is more in ‘support’ of the March 16-20 timeframe being bad. The week leading up to Easter is a known quantity, and since we’ve been covering Walt Disney World crowds, Easter has always been the worst week of spring break.
Additionally, our focus here is on K-12 school districts, but universities have spring breaks that can cause slight spikes to attendance. Colleges usually have less of an impact on Walt Disney World crowds due to age demographics, but they don’t have zero impact. Here’s a comprehensive list of college spring breaks.

Second to Worst Week of Spring Break 2026
The second-to-worst week of spring break will be March 16-20, 2026. This is the Monday through Friday that Orlando area and other Florida districts have off, as well as plenty of other Southern states. This is a relatively safe prediction, and tracks with last year’s wait time data (7/10 crowds all dates in that range).
In addition to Osceola and Orange Counties, Broward, Hillsborough, Palm Beach, Duval, Polk, and Leon County schools in Florida are all out simultaneously during this timeframe. There are also several districts in the Southeast, Texas, and lower Midwest that are also on break during this same week.
Compounding the crowding, Florida State University, University of Central Florida, and University of Florida are also on break, putting college kids into the mix. That’s a non-exhaustive list–in our scattered searches, it appeared that most major Florida universities are off that week.

Expect Friday, March 13, 2026 to be busier than the weekend between the lack of blockouts and student holidays for several districts. (This is likewise consistent with last year.)
Interestingly, March 10-12, 2026 are ‘Good to Go’ dates for APs, suggesting Walt Disney World isn’t forecasting elevated attendance those dates. This would be mostly consistent with last year, and a sharp departure from the previous year when that window was bonkers busy.
Although Disney does “miss” on attendance projections from time to time, we doubt that’s the case here. Circumstances have changed over the last two years. Accordingly, now through March 12, 2026 should be “safe” dates to visit.

Worst Week of Spring Break 2026
The worst week of spring break will be March 30 to April 6, 2026. That’s the Monday before through the Monday after Easter. Note that this does not track completely with last year’s wait times data, even once we adjust the dates for the timing of Easter.
Last year, Easter crowds relented on Sunday, meaning Saturday was the last day of truly bad crowds. That was effectively the end of spring break season, with April 20 and later all seeing low to moderate crowds. However, our expectation is that with the earlier Easter, crowds will continue into the week that follows. They won’t be as bad, but Easter’s two week shift will make a massive difference.
It is also our expectation that the week leading up to Easter 2026 will be worse for this exact same reason. The holiday happening earlier last year made some districts less likely to time their spring break to coincide with Easter. The opposite is true this year, and in fact, some districts that don’t purposefully anchor their spring recess to Easter will end up having that week off by happy accident.

Least-Bad Week of Spring Break 2026
That leaves an additional least-bad week of spring break season in between: March 23-27, 2026.
This week won’t be dead or anything close to it, as there will be a fresh wave of Florida families coming from Miami and other districts in the South. A broad swath of Midwest and Northeast districts also have this week off, with Chicago–a huge feeder for WDW–being one of many examples.
On top of that, no tiers of Annual Passes are blocked out from March 23-27, 2026 and most aren’t blocked out March 22-28, either. Consequently, expect elevated crowds during this timeframe, as well. It won’t be nearly as bad as the dates before or after, but it’ll serve as a ‘bridge’ of crowds from Central Florida’s break to Easter week. Expect 5/10 to 7/10 crowd levels.

Last Hurrah of Spring Break 2026
Finally, there’s April 7-10, 2026.
As noted above, spring break effectively ended last year on the Saturday immediately before Easter. However, that was also April 20th, so not exactly an apples to apples comparison here. If we look back at 2023 and 2024, both years when Easter occurred earlier, we see that drop-off happening later.
Based on that, we’d expect the peak crowds to end on Wednesday, April 8, 2026. The following couple of weekdays should still be busy, but the weekend should not. Spring break season will largely be over at that point, with the following week marking the unofficial arrival of shoulder season. That could be offset by new ticket deals, but crowd levels should still be trending downward for the remainder of April 2026.

Spring Break 2026 Park Hours Extensions
Past precedent strongly suspects that park hours will be extended for more spring break dates soon. We’re hoping for Magic Kingdom opening at 8 a.m. and closing at 11 p.m. Currently, hours have only been added through March 14, 2026, meaning every date after that still has boilerplate hours.
Worth noting that Friday, March 13, 2026 already received ‘maximum’ extensions for Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, and Hollywood Studios, underscoring our prediction that the last day before blockouts will be bad–and likely worse than the Saturday and Sunday after it.
For the week that follows through Easter week, we’re expecting more aggressive extensions. If last year’s precedent is any indication, Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios will all get longer hours.

This is incredibly advantageous–especially the earlier opening times since most travelers don’t want to do the early wake-up call on vacation. By simply arriving early or staying late, you can beat the worst of the crowds.
Choosing the best dates within each week is also advantageous. Throughout spring break season, the busiest days are likely to be Mondays through Wednesdays, with Saturday and Sunday being less busy. One trend we’ve seen in the last year or so is shorter trips and fewer park days (likely due to higher costs), so crowds tend to start strong each week and fizzle out as people head home before the weekend.
We’d recommend combining the above with our rundown of the Best & Worst Days of the Week to Visit Each Park at Walt Disney World to really optimize your approach. That plus Early Entry and/or Extended Evening Hours (and a midday break, if necessary) can help overcome high crowds.

Ultimately, that’s about what you can expect to experience during spring break 2026 at Walt Disney World. To summarize, our prediction is heavy crowds March 13, 2026, March 16-20, 2026 and March 30 to April 8, 2026. The week-plus in between shouldn’t be as bad, but it certainly won’t be dead–we’re still talking well above-average crowds.
The window around Easter will be the busiest of the entire year until Fall Break. In fact, if last year was any indication, both Thanksgiving and Christmas week will be less busy than Easter, meaning there won’t be a week as bad right up until New Year’s!
In between, there will be a few weeks of moderate or above crowds, but even those will not be bad as contrasted with anything the height of spring break. If you’re still in the planning phases, the best time to visit is after spring break ends, during shoulder season or beyond. In each of the last two years, crowd levels have progressively decreased for each and every month between April and September!
